Holds
Placing Holds
Holds may be placed on items that are checked out, items that are checked in for later pick up, and forthcoming titles. When a hold is placed, the patron's name is added to a queue for that item. If the material requested is currently checked in, please wait for notification that the item is ready for pick-up. If you need material more quickly, contact the Information Desk.
When the item becomes available, the patron will be contacted by phone or e-mail as designated in their account. Patrons are encouraged to use e-mail notification to ensure the best service.
Placing holds through the Library Catalog
Search the library catalog for the desired item. If all copies are currently unavailable, click on the Place Request button. This will take you to the login screen.
After logging into the library catalog with your library card number and password the request form appears. Click on the Submit Request button. If other requests are active for the same title, a message will display telling how many requests are currently on that title. Click on either the Continue button or Cancel button. If the Continue button is clicked, a message displays the information that your request has been placed. Click on the Return to search results button or the Go to your list of hold requests button.
Library staff are happy to assist you in placing holds. You may call 972-874-6200 and choose the reference desk from the options given.
Suspending and reactivating holds
To suspend a hold, access your Library Account and click the Requests tab to see the items on hold. Place a check mark in the box next to the titles that are to be suspended. Click on the Suspend/Reactivate button. Type in new activation date and click the Submit button. Then click the Back to requests button. When ready to resume receiving holds, they must be reactivated to return them to active status. Place a check mark next to the items to be reactivated and click on the Suspend/Reactivate button. Type in today’s date and click the Submit button. Click the Back to requests button.
